Book lists

Here is a book list and some websites with many more books for first through third grade students.  No list is comprehensive, so please add to this by commenting if you have a book or series that has worked for you.  Also, if you have used one of these books or series, please give some feedback for our other members.

It is harder to find chapter books for first graders, but some of the books on these lists may work.

My personal  book series recommendations:

Junie B Jones by Barbara Park

Cam Jansen by David Adler

A to Z Mysteries by Ron Roy

Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne

Judy Moody by Megan McDonald

Frog and Toad byArnold Lobel

Amber Brown by Paula Danziger

The Wayside School series by Louis Sachar

The Black Lagoon chapter book series by Mike Thaler (beware there is also a picture book series)

One Response to Book lists

  1. Gail Perin says:

    Tara,
Thanks for posting this helpful book list, there are some new ones for me (a Jim Trelease fan for 35 years!) and I am excited to explore them with my students. Did I give you the copy of NYT? article from Harvard study that demonstrated that emotional engagement through good literature was highly motivating for early readers?
    Keep up the great job!
    Gail
